Statement of intent

I chose this song as it has the narrative of someone who is feeling down and bad about their life and wish they could be better which matches the narrative of my music video. The video follows the narrative of an equilibrium of the protagonist wanting to learn the piano, this is disrupted when her teacher is abusive towards her and discourages her from learning. Her friend then encourages her to do better and practice more without the teacher where she instead gives credit to her friend for the help and encouragement and reaches the new equilibrium of the protagonist being happy with her piano skills and her friendship with her helper. I used a variety of shots to enhance the narrative of the music video; I used an over the shoulder low angle from behind the teacher looking at the student to show the power she has over her with a mirrored over the shoulder high angle from the protagonist’s perspective to enforce how powerless she is. Multiple demographics are included with a younger woman, an older woman and a younger male. I will intercut it with a performance video of the singer performing in an overgrown outdoor area. 

For the website I will include a front page with descriptions of the singer to create the persona of a laid-back rock star. I will further this persona with an interview of the singer as he explains why he made the song and what inspired him in his life to make the music video with a story of how he overcame a teacher’s negative criticism to make music. This is conventional with lots of musicians' work being inspired by their real-life experiences as it can also allow them to stay grounded and build their star appeal. I will have another page where people can watch the music video as well as a description of the song and its release and the narrative of the video with advertisement about its release as most musicians have when a new piece of music is released by them. I will have a third page for a photoshoot of the singer with a biography of his life and how he started making music which will further shape the persona of the singer and give him greater star appeal by making him more grounded and relatable but keeping the glamourous persona of being a rock star. 

The website will have a piano theme to it which will specifically link to the music video’s plot revolving around a piano; The piano will fit the conventions of musicians changing their website to match their newest releases. On top of that I will make the front page look like sheet music to further this link and give the entire website a unified look and improve its synergy with the video. The website will also have a page dedicated to the music video and its description to highlight how important its release is to the musician’s career.
