Music Video The narrative for my music video is a student who wants to learn piano and gets an abusive teacher to teach her although she is too abusive to properly teach her so the protagonist has to study herself to get good at the piano and after impressing the teacher refuses her praise and shows her the door. The music video is partially inspired by the film 'Whiplash' with the plot of an abusive teacher. This is referenced in two scenes of the protagonist studying with movie playing in the background. I managed to keep most of the editing on beat for all the scenes I wanted to. I used editing to also show the passing of time to emphasise her devotion to studying with a wipe from a brighter daytime to a darker night time. Website My website's homepage has the same colour as the bedroom with the merch page having the same colour as the wall in the piano room of the music video to create synergy between the two products. The timetable from the video also appears to furthe...

Research for music video

For the performance sections of the video, I wanted to create the persona of a rock star with a formal attire to not make the persona too extreme or rebellious but more laid back which will be reflected by the website through interviews and text written about the singer . The plot of the video is a more conventional story following Todorov with a hero ’s equilibrium being disrupted and them having to go through a chain of events to fix it and create a new equilibrium . This also follows Propp’s character theory with a protagonist, antagonist, and helper that all push the story. Binary opposition is shown between the protagonist and the antagonist to create conflict and push the story forward. All these narrativ e theories help to make a conventional story that will be easy to follow without dialogue or sound as all narrative music videos must do. I used body language especially to portray these emotions and story as it is something everyone will understand even without die...

Statement of intent

I chose this song as it has the narrative of someone who is feeling down and bad about their life and wish they could be better which matches the narrative of my music video.  The video follows the narrative of an equilibrium of the protagonist wanting to learn the piano, this is disrupted when her teacher is abusive towards her and discourages her from learning. Her friend then encourages her to do better and practice more without  the teacher where she instead gives credit to her friend for the help and encouragement and reaches the new equilibrium of the protagonist being happy with her piano skills and her friendship with her helper. I used a variety of shots to enhance the narrative of the music video; I used an over the shoulder low angle from behind the teacher looking at the student to show the power she has over her with a mirrored over the shoulder high angle from the protagonist’s perspective to enforce how powerless she is. Multiple demographics...
